St. Thomas the Apostle

St. Thomas the Apostle

Feast day: July 3

Called to be one of the twelve Apostles, Thomas is known for doubting a post-Resurrection appearance until he himself saw the risen Lord. For this, history has called him “doubting Thomas.” Four apocryphal writings are attributed to Thomas, and he was known to have evangelized in Syria, Persia and India. He is considered the founder of the Malabar Christians. In the year 72 A.D., Thomas was martyred in Chennai, India. He is the patron saint of India, architects, and builders.

Grant, almighty God,
that we may glory in the Feast of the blessed Apostle Thomas,
so that we may always be sustained by his intercession
and, believing, may have life
in the name of Jesus Christ your Son,
whom Thomas acknowledged as the Lord.
Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
